Location: Beckenham, BR3 (office-based)
Salary: National Minimum Wage to start (rate depends on age), with clear progression as you grow into the role
Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 16:30
Contract: Permanent
About us
We are Wild Science. We bring animals and hands-on science workshops to schools, nurseries, care homes and birthday parties right across the UK. When we turn up, the day gets better. That's the whole business.
We are small, we are growing fast, and we are looking for the next person to join the team in our Beckenham office.
About the role
This is a proper foot-in-the-door role for someone who wants to learn how a real business actually runs. You won't be making the tea. You'll be talking to customers, owning a customer list, and helping us turn enquiries into bookings.
The last person who did this job came to us through Kickstart with zero office experience. He stayed four and a half years, took on more and more, and has just moved on to his next step. The role is now ready for someone new to take it further.
A typical day
* Answering the phone to customers booking parties and workshops. Most of them are in a good mood when they call, because they are planning something nice. Your job is to be warm, helpful, and guide them to the right booking.
* Replying to enquiries that come in by email. We have a simple formula based on actual behavioural science, and we will teach you how to use it. People who learn this skill properly find it useful for the rest of their working life.
* Owning our care home accounts. This is the part of the role we are most excited about. We visit care homes with our animals and the residents genuinely love it. We want to grow this side of the business, and we want the right person to own it. You will look after our list of care home contacts, give them a friendly call when we are going to be in their area, and build relationships that turn into repeat bookings.
* Helping keep the diary full. Spotting gaps, matching customers to availability, getting in touch with people who might want to fill the space. This is where the commercial thinking happens.
* General office support for the rest of the team.
Who we are looking for
Honestly, we are looking for potential more than experience. We will teach you everything you need to know. What we cannot teach is who you are.
We need someone who:
* Is genuinely friendly on the phone. Customers can hear a smile down the line and yours needs to come through.
* Is comfortable picking up the phone to make calls, not just answer them. Not cold sales. We are ringing care homes who would be pleased to hear from us, in a warm and helpful way.
* Is reliable. If you say you'll do it, you do it. If you said you'd be in at nine, you're in at nine.
* Wants to learn how this all works. Curious. Asks questions. Pays attention.
* Can use a computer well enough to type an email and learn a new booking system. You don't need to be a tech wizard.
What you get
* Full training from day one. You'll sit alongside people who know what they're doing and learn by doing the work.
* A friendly team. There are seven of us, including the owner. No corporate politics. No layers of managers. You'll know everyone by the end of week one.
* Real progression. The role grows with you. Trainee Account Coordinator now, Account Coordinator after you've found your feet, Account Manager once you're running your own customer base properly. We are not making this up. The person before you grew their role for four and a half years and we expect the same of whoever comes next.
* A business you can actually feel good about working for. We work with animals. We make people's days better. Most of our customers leave happier than when they arrived. There are worse ways to spend a Tuesday.
How to apply
Send us a short message telling us about yourself and why this role appeals to you. You do not need a polished CV. We're far more interested in who you are than what's on paper. If you've never had an office job before, that's fine. Tell us about something you've stuck with, something you've learned, or someone you've helped.
