Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Assistant Finance Analyst to join our team, based at our Coldharbour Works offices on Coldharbour Lane. The position is responsible for processing financial information on the general ledger, analysing general ledger transactions, and supporting Senior Finance Analysts. The role involves meeting budget holders, supporting Finance Business Partners and Senior Support Analysts in budgeting, forecasting, and business planning. It requires intense concentration and sustained mental effort to analyse, understand, retain and convey information, prioritise workloads, and meet financial deadlines.
Main Duties
* Be a role model in providing a customer‑focused, high‑quality service to managers, directors, clinicians and finance business partners.
* Work with colleagues in Contracting, Income, Costing and information/performance management to ensure coherent integrated information, analysis and plans.
* Develop and maintain an understanding of the Trust’s accounting processes, procedures and financial systems.
* Support the implementation of actions in response to recommendations from Internal Audit for the enhancement of internal controls and procedures in own areas of responsibility.
* Develop comprehensive knowledge of national accounting standards and NHS legislation, finance policies and initiatives relating to the NHS financial regime.
* Provide robust, accurate and timely core financial data to meet internal and external month‑end/year‑end deadlines.
* Ensure strong relationships and regular communications with all Trust finance managers to keep them informed of any data‑quality issues, new national guidance, policy changes and to provide clear guidance.
* Assist the Finance Manager in monthly monitoring of the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and integrity of data prior to distribution.
* Review financial transactions to ensure correct processing and recording, meeting audit requirements.
* Upload budget journals, including SLR budget journals and WTE budgets.
* Perform monthly reconciliation of budget movements, forecast movements and balance sheet.
* Reconcile payroll files with ESR and liaise with ESR team and Business Support Officers to correct errors at source.
* Process payroll reconciling, accrual, prepayment, recharge and amendment journals accurately and in a timely manner, maintaining suitable supporting documentation.
* Raise invoices as requested, ensuring accurate coding.
* Liaise with Finance Business Partners to support the Trust’s recruitment control process and prepare AtoE forms as directed by Senior Finance Analysts.
* Provide monthly reports to HR, Finance Business Partners and Senior Finance Manager to support month‑end and year‑end processes.
Qualifications
* Essential qualifications: NVQ Level 4 or AAT Technician level or CCAB Foundation stage or equivalent experience relevant to the role.
* Essential skills & experience: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work to tight deadlines and maintain a high standard of work; Experience of Microsoft Office; Ability to work as part of a team and maintain good working relationships with a large and diverse staff group; Experience within management accounts.
* Essential personal qualities: Demonstrable ability to meet Trust Values; Attention to detail and ability to use judgement to spot anomalies or variances to trends; Ability to work under pressure and to plan and prioritise workload effectively; Ability to reflect on own performance and recognise areas of development.
* Desirable: Worked with Power BI; Previous NHS experience; Works across boundaries, looks for collective success, listens, involves, respects and learns from the contribution of others.
