Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. HCPC registered ODP (Dip (HE) Operating Department Practice)
2. NMC registered Nurse (Advanced Diploma/Degree in Adult Health Nursing)
Desirable criteria
3. Learning and Assessing in Practice (or equivalent teaching/mentoring qualification)
4. Patient Care in Anaesthesia (or equivalent anaesthetic CPD module)
Experience
Essential criteria
5. Experience of caring for patients with acute and long term conditions
6. Working under pressure with frequent interruptions
Desirable criteria
7. Leadership
Knowledge
Essential criteria
8. Working knowledge of basic operating department routine and surgical specialties undertaken
9. Understanding of the surgical patient pathway through the hospital
Desirable criteria
10. Working knowledge of relevant equipment
11. Aware of AFPP Standards and Guidelines for safe Peri-operative Practice
Technical Skill
Essential criteria
12. Basic IT literacy
13. Demonstrable ability with vital signs monitoring equipment and ability to recognise the deteriorating patient
14. Able to work unsupervised and on own initiative
Desirable criteria
15. Technical/clinical competencies relevant to practice role eg, airway management, use of Da Vinci robot etc
16. Able to supervise junior staff effectively
