About Us:
Digital and Innovation in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where creative and enterprising people put local residents and businesses first. Creativity isn't only for senior managers; we expect it from everyone, including new recruits.
Today, Westminster is the most connected borough in London. In the mid-2010s, small businesses still struggled with connectivity. David, in a junior role, successfully advocated for £2.8 million of European funding to support connectivity for small businesses. This project enhanced their communications and remote working capabilities, vital during the pandemic.
Now, Westminster leads in connectivity, with thriving businesses and David heading a service responsible for delivering the Smart City strategy.
The Role:
As a Senior Product Manager, you will contribute to Westminster's success by driving the growth of the Connected London WiFi initiative. This product aims to improve digital connectivity for residents, businesses, and visitors across Westminster and beyond. You will oversee expanding WiFi Access Points, increasing user adoption, and expanding partnerships, balancing innovation with user needs and privacy.
You will own the vision, roadmap, and strategy for the product, coordinate dependencies across departments, and work with multidisciplinary teams to develop and enhance the initiative. You will define goals, manage product backlogs, and report on performance, contributing to a culture of innovation and agile working within Westminster's Digital & Innovation team.
About You:
You are an experienced product leader with a background in telecoms, WiFi, or network infrastructure, with a proven track record of scaling digital products. You are skilled in agile methodologies, user-centered design, and service design, and can influence senior stakeholders effectively. You possess technical knowledge of WiFi technology, network infrastructure, and privacy regulations like GDPR. Familiarity with local government frameworks and a passion for 'tech for good' are desirable. You are committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive product culture, mentoring others, and leading by example.
Westminster City Council supports Care Leavers and encourages applications from diverse backgrounds, especially from the Global Majority, utilizing positive action provisions under the Equality Act 2010.
What We Offer:
Westminster is a vibrant, diverse city with a strong commitment to inclusion, equality, and community engagement. We offer flexible working and are a Disability Confident Employer. We aim to increase workforce diversity and welcome applications from all backgrounds.
Our colleagues are our greatest asset, exemplified by stories like Daphne, who advocates for colleagues with learning difficulties, and Shofa, who champions youth entrepreneurship. Join us to contribute to Westminster's inclusive and innovative community.
