Medical Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist - Lincoln
The closing date is 25 May 2026. This full‑time role is based in the Blood Sciences Pathology Department at Lincoln County Hospital, supporting the Pathology Department. The role is suitable for individuals who enjoy a variety of duties and has essential computer input work experience.
The successful candidate will assist Biomedical Scientists with laboratory work, receipt and processing of a variety of biological samples, and perform phlebotomy. The role requires literacy and numeracy, a GCSE Grade C or above in mathematics and English, and (advantage) laboratory or health care experience and familiarity with medical terminology. Good manual dexterity is required.
Main duties of the job
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary Blood Sciences laboratory after training and competency completion.
* Assist Biomedical Scientists with lab work.
* Receipt and process biological samples.
* Perform phlebotomy, taking blood from patients (after training).
* Perform other duties within the department as required.
Qualifications
* Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
* GCSE or equivalent qualification in 3 subjects, including science.
* IT skills.
* Phlebotomy theory training.
* Practical phlebotomy experience.
* Knowledge of IPC/Health & Safety relevant to role.
* General suitability to post.
* Experience of NHS/UK laboratory or a UK healthcare setting and evidence of teamwork.
Employment conditions
Core hours 09:00 – 17:30, with shift work on an out‑of‑hours roster, including early shifts, late shifts, weekends and Bank Holidays.
