Key Pre-Sales Activities
The pre-sales process typically involves several stages to ensure the right system is selected and implemented effectively:
* Consultation & Needs Assessment: Specialists work with the business to understand their energy profile, goals (e.g., peak shaving, backup power, renewable integration, energy trading), and specific operational constraints.
* System Design & Sizing: Engineers design a bespoke BESS, determining the appropriate power and energy capacity (kWh/MWh) based on the analysis. This includes selecting components like battery modules, inverters/power conversion systems (PCS), and the energy management system (EMS).
* Feasibility & ROI Modeling: Detailed financial modeling is performed to project potential savings on electricity bills (e.g., via demand charge management), potential revenues from grid services, and overall project ROI, which often involves navigating incentive programs.
* Regulatory & Safety Review: Ensuring the proposed system design adheres to local electrical codes and safety certifications, such as:
* HSE & NFCC (2024): Issued guidance to help the industry navigate existing standards for grid-scale BESS, focusing on fire prevention and safe operation.
* PAS 63100-2024: A British Standard addressing safety and fire protection for BESS installations (excluding small or domestic systems).
* Customization & Integration Planning: Planning how the BESS will integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure, such as solar PV systems, EV charging stations, or a microgrid setup, and whether an AC-coupled or DC-coupled configuration is most suitable.
