Cold Store Operative Pay Rate: £21.21 per hour rising to £13.68 after 12 weeks service Shift Pattern: Rotational shifts (Weekly) 6:00am 2:00pm 2:00pm 10:00pm Job Summary We are currently recruiting a Cold Store Operative to work within a fast-paced cold storage environment operating at -18C. The primary objective of the role is to provide an efficient, safe, and reliable service to customers by ensuring products are handled correctly, with minimal delay, maintaining a strong and effective cold chain at all times. You will be responsible for preparing and receiving orders, carrying out inventory controls, maintaining accurate records, and working in line with company policies and procedures to ensure high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. Key Responsibilities Unloading vehicles, checking deliveries against documentation, and reporting any discrepancies or damage to the Cold Store Manager Loading vehicles efficiently, ensuring correct stock, adequate shrink-wrapping, and replacement of damaged pallets Safely locating stock within racking, replacing damaged pallets prior to storage Updating the location system accurately for all stock movements Lifting and dropping pallets from racking in preparation for outbound orders Picking and preparing orders accurately in line with picking notes Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised working environment Monitoring inventory through stock counts and checks Operating machinery safely and legally at all times Providing courteous and efficient service to customers Supporting general cold store operations, including stock-taking, handballing, cleaning, and pallet inversion as required Maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency in line with company policies and procedures Attending training courses and completing required development Complying with government guidance and company policies, including health and safety requirements This list is not exhaustive, and you may be required to undertake additional duties to support the safe and efficient running of the cold store. Essential Skills & Experience Previous warehouse experience Strong numerical awareness Basic IT literacy Basic Food Hygiene Certificate Ability to work in a -18C environment Strong attention to detail and safety awareness Desirable Skills MHE licences (training can be provided) People Operated Electric Pallet Transporter (POEPT) licence Health & Safety Responsibilities All employees are required to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others.
