Quantity Surveyor - Prime & Bespoke High-End Residential | Permanent
We're looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join a family-run main contractor with a long track record of delivering high-end refurbishments, extensions and one-off builds across London - this is one-off super-prime residential. Projects sit around £4m-£20m - think bespoke finishes, proper craftsmanship, and clients who'll notice a wonky architrave from across the room.
You don't need to come from a super-prime background. If you've cut your teeth with a Tier 1 or strong regional contractor and fancy applying your skills to something more polished (and possibly more emotionally demanding), this is your moment to trade value engineering for very expensive light fittings.
A typical week might include:
• Monthly CVRs and valuation meetings that test your diplomacy as much as your maths
• Trade take-offs, procurement and cost comparisons that never seem to agree with each other
• Issuing variations and site instructions both upstream and downstream
• Managing subbies from order to final account - part accountant, part therapist
• Assisting operations with urgent matters that have apparently been urgent for three weeks
You'll fit right in if you:
• Can keep a straight face while someone tells you marble from Italy is basically the same cost as porcelain
• Have mastered the art of explaining why the provisional sum wasn't magic money
• Have time served with reputable contractors (not a serial site tourist)
• Can balance cost, quality, and client happiness without needing a stiff drink - most days
You'll recognise these moments:
• That sixth version of a variation you swore you'd already priced - twice
• The friendly site meeting that turns into a two-hour debate over who moved the line item
• The final account that refuses to die quietly
• The joy of finding a missing credit note… in the wrong project folder
