Job Description Summary
Activities contributing to product design improvement for manufacturability, design of tools, jigs and fixtures for easy manufacturability of HVDC transformers and coordination with manufacturing process engineers for SOP generation and improvement projects. Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components that impact departmental operations and are responsible for planning and execution.
Responsibilities
* Review transformer designs (core, windings, winding assembly, active part, tanking and final assembly) for manufacturability.
* Work on 3D and 2D tools (Inventor/AutoCAD) and modify designs to ensure manufacturability (DFM).
* Ensure product designs align with plant capabilities and production constraints in collaboration with manufacturing process engineers.
* Work with CAD models and production constraints to ensure proper compatibility in 3D/2D models.
* Create and optimize manufacturing processes and work closely with design engineers.
* Support production, improve product design for easier manufacturing, suggesting design changes to reduce cost/time, driving value engineering and cost reduction initiatives.
* Design and develop jigs, fixtures, molds, dies and customized tools for easy manufacturability that improve safety, quality, delivery and cost.
* Work with vendors for fabrication and validation of tools.
* Maintain tooling standards and documentation.
* Create and maintain SOPs, work instructions and CTQs.
* Collaborate with design engineering, procurement, quality team and production for cross‑functional collaboration.
* Provide technical support to shop floor and resolve production challenges.
* Conduct and lead DFMEA and PFMEA.
Education and Experience
* Electrical or mechanical engineer or equivalent experience in design and manufacturing (in power transformers).
* Experience with 3D, 2D tools (Inventor or equivalent, AutoCAD).
* Experience with document management system (Windchill or equivalent).
* Knowledge of transformer design and power transformer manufacturing process.
* Experience as an industrial engineer with knowledge of transformer manufacturing process and 2D/3D tools.
