Job Overview:
We are seeking professional and safety-conscious HGV Class 1 drivers to operate silo tankers across the UK based at Rochester and Manchester. This is a tramping role, requiring overnight stays and long-distance travel. Drivers will be responsible for the safe loading, unloading, and transportation of dry bulk materials using silo tipping tankers.
Experience with silo tankers, power tankers, and bulk tippers is preferred but not essential. Comprehensive training will be provided to suitable candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Vehicle Operation & Safety
Conduct daily vehicle checks including tires, lights, brakes, chassis, and trailer integrity when in the docks.
Attention to safety when coupling and uncoupling trailers.
Operate silo tankers using hydraulic tipping mechanisms.
Ensure correct use of stabilising legs, level indicators, and unloading equipment.
Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report defects promptly.
2. Loading & Unloading
Follow site-specific procedures for safe loading and unloading.
Connect hoses, discharge elbows, and non-return valves correctly.
Monitor air pressure and product flow characteristics.
Remain in reduced risk zones during tipping and unloading operations.
3. Compliance & Conduct
Adhere to all UK and EU driving regulations, including tachograph and rest period rules.
Maintain a professional appearance and courteous behaviour at all times.
Report all incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions.
4. PPE & Site Safety
Wear full PPE including helmet, gloves, safety shoes (S3), harness, and hearing protection.
Complete site inductions and follow local safety protocols.
Use earthing cables and wheel chocks during unloading.
5. Post-Trip Duties
Complete unloading documentation.
Clean and inspect all accessories and hoses.
Ensure trailer is depressurised and sealed correctly.
Requirements:
Essential:
Valid HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence
Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
Passport and eligibility to work in the UK
Willingness to work away from home (tramping)
Desirable:
Experience with silo tankers, bulk tippers, or pneumatic discharge systems
Training Provided:
Silo Tanker Driver Training.
Working at Height and PPE usage.
Site specific unloading protocols
