The Dorset Library Service comprises 23 libraries and a 24/7 online service. Our mission is to inspire, enable, and connect communities through access to books, information, and technology such as public computers and iPads. We also host a variety of events and activities for all ages, fostering a welcoming environment for everyone.
This role provides students with insight into library operations, opportunities to acquire new skills, boost confidence, and support their career decision-making. Tasks include engaging with customers, assisting with enquiries—from locating stock to accessing the internet—and participating in planning and executing events at Ferndown Library.
What You Will Be Doing:
* Greeting customers and delivering friendly service.
* Shelving and tidying stock to maintain library standards.
* Updating community information notices.
* Assisting customers with self-service machines.
* Guiding visitors around the library.
* Handling stock, such as unpacking new books.
* Locating requested items and managing mobile collection stock.
* Creating and maintaining book displays.
* Supporting children and family events like Rhyme Time.
* Choosing books for housebound readers.
* Sorting deliveries.
* Performing photocopying and administrative duties.
* Preparing materials for activities.
