Overview

Healthcare Support Worker - Ward 12 at Bournemouth Hospital, University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. The closing date is 24 October 2025.

Are you looking for a career as a Healthcare Support Worker?

If so we want you to join our committed, dynamic team working on Ward 12 - Elective Surgery at the Bournemouth Hospital.

We are a 20 bed elective general surgical ward looking after a wide range of surgical specialties. This will give the successful applicant the chance to learn & develop their skills in a wide range of areas and would provide diversity in their day to day working life.

The successful candidate will need to work both days and nights on a rota system covering weekdays, weekends & bank holidays.

You would be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team under the supervision of a registered nurse within a patient facing ward. Previous experience of working in a care environment is welcomed but is not essential as comprehensive training & support are provided for all successful candidates.

Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of working in a team under appropriate supervision
* Able to demonstrate an understanding of principles of effective customer care
* Good basic hygiene skills (e.g. food handling, hand washing)
* Previous experience of working within a care environment/NHS
* Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of working with the public


Knowledge

* Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional
* Understanding of the importance of the promotion of health and well-being (Making Every Contact Count)
* Able to listen to advice from colleagues, agree a plan of action and implement


Qualifications

* Good standard of general education including literacy and numeracy
* NVQ Level 2 in care or customer services


Personal Attributes

* Courteous, respectful and helpful at all times
* Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Able to work in a busy environment and manage own workload


Technical Skills and Competencies

* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
* Ability to follow clear instructions and feed back to senior staff
* Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative
* IT literate
* Understanding of basic physiology, e.g. normal vital signs, fluid balance, nutritional requirements etc.
* Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids
