Neurology MS Nurse Specialist – Band 7
Fixed Term / Secondment (for 8 months until January 2027)
We are looking for one experienced registered nurse with proven experience of acute and or long term care of neurological conditions to work as an integral member of our very enthusiastic multidisciplinary Croydon Neurology Team; you must have a specialist interest in MS. This is for either fixed term or secondment covering maternity leave.
As a specialist nurse you will provide day to day clinical expertise working in both hospital and community settings along agreed clinical pathways within this integrated Trust, working closely with the four neurology consultants and other neurology nurses as well as the Community Multi‑Disciplinary Team, and liaising with other services and directorates to ensure maximum effectiveness, quality, patient experience and ensuring sensitivity to patients’ needs and ethnic requirements.
You will need to be an adept and confident, with proven experience of working in this field and area of specialist interest with the ability to meet the clinical, educational and emotional needs of patients and their carers as well as demonstrating good interpersonal skills to enable effective teamwork as well as taking part in service evaluation audit and research. Previous experience as a neurology nurse specialist is an advantage.
Responsibilities
* Develop and establish the specialist nursing service for people with MS to provide appropriate support.
* Provide nursing cover and support for other neurological conditions.
* Ensure an integrated service is delivered for people with MS, liaising with other members of the multidisciplinary team including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, continence service, neuropsychology services, social workers.
* Develop the interface between Hospital, Community and Primary Care Services to ensure patients can manage their condition at home without unnecessary hospital admissions/stays.
* Develop the knowledge of both people with MS and Health Care Professionals about the optimal management of MS and symptoms associated with it.
* Liaise with the voluntary sector to develop the support and services available for people with MS.
* Be an integral part of the specialist neurological team for assessment, management and review of MS patients and their treatments.
