What you’ll be doing
The Android Developer sits within the Digital function of our Retail business, reporting into the Digital Engineering Manager. As an Android Developer within the Digital Team you will work in a small product squad alongside iOS developers, Backend developers, QA testers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and UX designers.
With daily downloads in excess of 1 million, you have the potential to make a significant impact on our customer’s digital experience. Our YourEnergy app is 100% Kotlin, built using MVVM with Android libraries such as ObjectBox, NavGraph, LiveData, Jetpack Compose. Coroutines are heavily used throughout the app.
We’re looking for a senior-level Android developer with a passion for writing great code with the customer’s needs at the forefront. You’ll write tested, clean, maintainable code while moving fast in an agile environment.
You will be working in a small product squad alongside other developers, QA testers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, and UX designers. Objectives vary by squad, with some squads enhancing the ScottishPower UK app and others working on new products.

* Providing support for development activities within the ScottishPower family of Digital platforms
* Creating visually appealing digital solutions featuring user-friendly design and clean navigation
* Creating processes that capture change improvements across the Digital department using your technical and creative skills
* Assessing external and internal factors to maximise benefits and minimise risks where appropriate for the business
* Producing effective developments that meet project goals
What We're Looking For
* Knowledge of Android Studio
* Kotlin or Java knowledge
* Comfortable connecting to RESTful APIs (Retrofit)
* Familiarity with versioning tools (Git or SVN)
* Familiar with Google Play/app release process
* Knowledge of Agile/Scrum processes
* Familiarity with Coroutines
* Experience with Jetpack Compose
* Experience with Gradle
* Experience with debugging tools
* Experience or familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, with test-driven development and UI testing would be an advantage
