Assistant Practitioner / Trainee Assistant Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the friendly, supportive Bladder and Bowel Service for two Band 4 Assistant Practitioner. Candidates will also be considered who are willing to work towards the Assistant Practitioner qualification.

We are looking for someone who is an enthusiastic team player to join the team based in Workington Community Hospital and Hill Top Heights in Carlisle.

The right candidate will be expected to undertake L1 bladder and bowel dysfunction work that will include the assessment and treatment of patients. This will require the ability to provide appropriate bladder and bowel dysfunction advice, provision of treatment and the ability to prescribe containment products and/or devises that may support a patients in the management of their bladder and/or bowel dysfunction.


Main duties of the job

The Community Specialist Bladder and Bowel Service is a Nurse led service providing support to patients across North Cumbria. The team is made up from Specialist Bladder and Bowel Nurses and Assistant Practitioners. The team work together to provide patients with a holistic person cantered assessment alongside the management and/or treatment of their bladder or bowel dysfunction.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:

* youth cautions, reprimands and final warnings will no longer be subject to automatic disclosure
* the multiple conviction rule has been removed, meaning that if an individual has more than one conviction, regardless of offence type or time passed, each conviction will be considered against the remaining rules individually, rather than being automatically disclosed.

Please note the cost of the DBS check is increasing from 2nd December and the new cost will be

Standard DBS check £21.50, Enhanced DBS check £49.50 + any admin costs.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding adults and children therefore if the post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended) the successful candidate(s) will be subject to a criminal records check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as followsif applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* GSCE in Maths and English. Grade A to C or 4 -9.
* Willingness to undertake Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree or willingness to study and achieve the Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree.
* Care Certificate.


Experience

* Experience of working within a health or social care setting.
* Experience of working in a community setting.
* Previous experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Experience of working within a Therapy team environment.


Knowledge

* Understanding bladder and bowel dysfunction.
* Evidence of ongoing training and mandatory courses.
* Understanding of reflective practice and its application.
* Appreciation of the roles of other agencies both voluntary and statutory.
* Self-awareness and appreciation of limitations.
* Knowledge and understanding of moving and handling policies and procedures.
* Understanding and knowledge of relevant National Service Frameworks and guidelines.


Skills and aptitudes

* Able to undertake work delegated by registered clinician.
* To be able to seek support from registered clinicians as required.
* Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
* Able to use own initiative.
* Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Basic IT skills.
* Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
