This role will suit someone with strong experience managing engineering, R&D, research, aerospace, defence, or government-funded programmes. You will be responsible for taking ownership of project delivery, ensuring milestones, budgets, reporting requirements, risks, and stakeholder expectations are managed effectively
Responsibilities
- Leading project delivery from initiation through to completion
- Developing and maintaining project plans, timelines, milestones, and resource allocation
- Managing project budgets, cost control, risks, issues, and mitigation plans
- Supporting technical teams with project deliverables, progress tracking, and gate reviews
- Coordinating procurement activity alongside technical and business support teams
- Managing internal and external stakeholders, including consortium partners
- Producing reports, meeting notes, change logs, project updates, and formal documentation
- Ensuring reporting is delivered on time and to the required standard
- Escalating key issues to leadership where required
- Driving communication, collaboration, and project momentum across all parties
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Science, or a related field preferred
Required Skills
- 5+ years’ project management experience within engineering, R&D, research, aerospace, defence, or complex technical programmes
- Experience managing government-funded projects and formal reporting requirements
- Strong planning, budgeting, cost control, and financial management experience
- Excellent risk, issue, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to support technical teams and translate technical progress into project deliverables
- Strong leadership, communication, and documentation skills
- Experience working in a portfolio or multi-project environment
Preferred Skills
- Aerospace, defence, or complex technical R&D programme background
- Experience working with UK Government departments or international government stakeholders
- Security clearance, or the ability to obtain clearance
