A leading UK engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior or Principal Vertical Transportation (VT) Engineer to join their London-based team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to play a key role in delivering high-quality site services and design support across a diverse portfolio of projects.
The Role
This position focuses on site-based activities such as asset management, construction monitoring, and witness testing, while also contributing to project design. The successful candidate will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams on projects across the residential, commercial, science & research, retail, and education sectors—both in the UK and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
* Respond to client needs and provide expert technical guidance.
* Oversee site progress, testing, and commissioning activities.
* Conduct surveys and report on existing vertical transportation equipment.
* Develop specifications, technical reports, and asset management strategies.
* Lead smaller projects and support larger ones with construction values exceeding £200 million.
* Collaborate with architects, developers, and building managers to deliver tailored VT solutions.
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Industry-recognised qualifications.
* Strong practical knowledge of lifts, escalators, and moving walks.
* Solid understanding of VT engineering codes and standards.
* Proficient in IT and reporting tools.
* Experience managing projects and meeting deadlines independently.
* Excellent communication skills and a client-focused mindset.
* A proactive, team-oriented approach with a willingness to learn and support others.
* Previous experience in consultancy or contracting (e.g. VT design, surveying, commissioning, facilities management) is advantageous but not essential.
