Head of Technical Projects role at Fletchers Solicitors (Fletchers Group). Location options include Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Bolton, Southport, Newcastle, Reading, Birmingham, Northampton, and Cambridge. Hybrid working available with flexibility to work from home and collaborate in-office when needed.
Shape integrations, lead change, deliver impact. We are seeking a technology leader to drive the successful technical delivery of high-profile M&A integrations and key technology initiatives. This hands-on senior role requires deep expertise in infrastructure and Microsoft Azure, with end-to-end ownership of solution delivery and coordination of cross-functional virtual teams of developers, infrastructure specialists, and support engineers. Although titled Head of, the role is not a traditional line management position and focuses on technical leadership without boundaries.

Main Responsibilities
* Lead the technical delivery workstreams of M&A integrations and selected technology change initiatives, ensuring successful execution from due diligence to post-merger consolidation.
* Own the technical delivery plan: define tasks, allocate resources, track progress, and manage risks/issues for technical streams.
* Provide hands-on technical expertise across infrastructure, Azure cloud, and development to ensure secure, scalable, and business-aligned solutions.
* Solution design: lead the high-level and low-level designs and non-functional requirements; obtain infra/security design approval from the Head of Infrastructure & Security.
* M&A due diligence: assess target environments (infrastructure, Azure, security posture, data flows), identify remediation items, and plan secure integration/migration paths.
* Build and lead virtual technical teams drawn from IT and business functions, guiding delivery without direct line management responsibility.
* Collaborate with Project Managers and Business Analysts to deliver joined-up outcomes; act as primary escalation point for technical delivery issues.
* Manage technical dependencies and ensure effective integration with business operations during M&A activities.
* Partner with the Technical & Operations Director on scope/priorities and provide concise, risk-based status and RAID reporting.
* Ensure governance and documentation for technical designs, decisions, and delivery; drive continuous improvement in technical project delivery.
Essential Skills And Experience
Technical Expertise (Essential)
* Proven background in infrastructure and IT operations.
* Strong Microsoft Azure skills (IaaS, PaaS, identity, and hybrid environments).
* Understanding of application development practices.
* Experience with data migration and systems consolidation.
* Awareness of cybersecurity principles and compliance standards.
Project & Delivery Skills (Essential)
* Demonstrable success delivering technical projects, including M&A integrations.
* Ability to plan and manage technical workstreams, aligning with wider project governance.
* Skilled in leading virtual/matrix teams and coordinating vendors.
* Strong stakeholder management, influencing at all levels of the organisation.
* Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
* PRINCE2 or similar Project certification.
Desirable Skills And Experience
* Experience in the legal sector or other regulated industries.
* Knowledge of Proclaim or equivalent case management systems.
* Familiarity with ISO 27001 / Cyber Essentials Plus frameworks.
* Technical Certification such as Azure Solutions Architect, ITIL, TOGAF.
