Overview
Join to apply for the Clinical Advisor role at NHS Scotland.
We are accepting applications from HCPC registered Paramedics and Registered Nurses to join our team of Clinical Advisors within the Integrated Clinical Hub (ICH) at various locations across Scotland. These are Full Time Permanent and Seconded roles. Part Time hours may be considered. There are rostered and non-rostered (relief) positions available.
The Role
The Integrated Clinical Hub (ICH) was established within the Scottish Ambulance Service in 2023 as a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians including Clinical Advisors, Senior Clinical Support Managers, Advanced Practitioners and GPs. The ICH interacts via Remote Telephone Consultation with over 13,000 patients per month to assess, consult and match care to patient needs. Patients are offered the most appropriate advice, signposting or response.
You will primarily be responsible for providing remote clinical assessment via telephone and video consultation, offering advice to patients and ensuring onward care is safe and appropriate to their needs. You will act as a point of contact, providing clinical support to the wider ACC through Dispatch and Call taking processes and to Operational crews requiring professional advice. You will use your clinical decision‑making skills to ensure patients are safely assessed and receive the most appropriate Ambulance response or alternative care pathways.
Clinical Advisors have continuous professional development incorporated into their role to keep ahead in patient care.
The Person
You will be a clinically focussed and driven professional, with evidence of continuous professional development. You should have significant, demonstrable post‑registration experience, with previous experience in an ambulance service, acute or primary care setting. Paramedics or nurses with extended training skills (e.g., acute illness or minor injury) would be advantageous, as would previous extended telephone triage knowledge and practice. You should be computer literate with good keyboard skills.
The Selection Process
The selection process comprises 3 sections, each of which must be passed to progress:
* Stage 1: Typing Test and Toxbase Calculation
* Stage 2: Clinical Scenario Assessment Day
* Stage 3: Competency-based Interview
Further details will be provided following shortlisting. Informal enquiries can be made to the Clinical Duty Manager team.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if sufficient applications are received. Please submit your application as early as possible.
