Mechanical Technician Salary: Up to £40,000 £1,800 London Weighting Excellent Company Benefits Location: Based at Coryton (Stanford-le-Hope), with occasional travel to Cranbrook, Kent Calor Gas is seeking a proactive and experienced Mechanical Technician to join our Production team, supporting operations across our Coryton Cylinder Distribution Centre and Cranbrook LPG break-bulk site. In this role, you'll play a critical part in ensuring the ongoing reliability, safety, and performance of mechanical systems, equipment, and infrastructure at both locations. From planned preventative maintenance to supporting process safety systems, your work will help drive operational efficiency and safety compliance. Key Responsibilities: Carry out all mechanical maintenance activities. Perform routine testing, inspections, and maintenance of fire protection systems and process safety critical equipment. Proactively reduce downtime through effective troubleshooting and timely repairs. Ensure all work and maintenance documentation is accurately completed and compliant with both legislative and company standards. Support and contribute to on-site Health, Safety, and Environmental performance. Manage tools, equipment, and spare parts, assisting the Site Inventory Controller where needed. Participate in internal and external safety audits and inspections. Travel regularly between Coryton and Cranbrook, on site van available for use when travelling. What We’re Looking For: Minimum City & Guilds qualification (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Multi-Discipline Engineering, or related technical field. Practical experience maintaining mechanical systems in hazardous areas, ideally within oil/gas or COMAH-regulated sites. Good working knowledge of pumps, compressors, pneumatics, pipework, pressure vessels, and electronic control systems. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics. Familiarity with Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Permit to Work systems. Understanding of risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work. Desirable Qualifications (or willingness to obtain): COMPEX certification NEBOSH or IOSH safety qualifications. The Ideal Candidate Will Also Have: A flexible and adaptable approach to working across multiple sites. Strong communication and teamwork skills. A good level of IT literacy, including MS Office applications. Organisational skills to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines efficiently.
