    The NHS Lothian Blood Science Laboratories comprising Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Biochemistry, Immunology and Serology are based on 3 adult sites

    (RIE, WGH & SJH).

    This is an opportunity to develop your technical and managerial skills within a supportive team environment at the WGH Biochemistry Department. Applicants will be considered from HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists educated to Masters level (Masters or HSD) with experience in Biochemistry and related disciplines.

    We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with proven training and management skills. The ideal candidate will have experience at a specialist level in Biochemistry. The post holder is responsible for maximising service provision, including enabling the delivery of a safe and effective service, and ensuring that all local and national guidelines and targets are adhered to and met e.g., quality and training, and helping to maintain our ISO 15189 accreditation. We are also introducing a new LIMS which means reviewing all our workflows which this post will help to implement.

    Team Manager Based in the Blood Science Laboratory at WGH - We encourage applicants with a Blood Science background to apply.

    The post is full time and once trained and competent there will be a requirement for out of hours participation (backshifts, weekends and overnight) to ensure a 24/7 service provision for our patients.

    As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
