Senior Design Engineer Sector: Rail / Civil & Structural Design Engineering Location: York Company: AmcoGiffen About the Role AmcoGiffen is seeking a dedicated Senior Design Engineer to join our growing in-house design team focused on civil engineering and structural projects within the rail sector. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a range of stimulating projects, including bridge reconstruction, station upgrades, and various infrastructure projects through long-term frameworks established with key clients. Key Responsibilities As a Senior Design Engineer, you will: Develop innovative technical solutions within the team's budget, quality, and program requirements. Use your initiative to propose solutions grounded in sound engineering principles. Challenge project briefs to enhance the development of clear and effective engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed design. Design and check engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with current Codes of Practice and Standards. Produce well-documented calculations, reports, and sketches. Communicate design philosophies and requirements effectively with team members and external stakeholders. Represent the design team at meetings with AmcoGiffen project teams and clients. Maintain a focus on the team’s financial, quality, and program targets. Promote safe working practices throughout all project aspects. Manage staff and oversee project deliverables. Requirements To succeed in this role, you will need: A degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (BSc / BEng / CEng). Proven experience as a Senior Design Engineer in a rail project environment. Solid experience with civil engineering project design, particularly in bridges, structures, stations, and platforms. Ideally, you should be Chartered or making significant progress towards membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE or IStructE). Experience in client, contractor, or consultancy roles in rail/civil and structural engineering is preferred.
