Job Overview
This is a Band 6 Senior Dietitian role based at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, delivering a range of acute dietetic service. You will be the lead adult dietitian for cardiology, including wards, a weekly outpatient clinic, and a monthly patient group talk. The role also includes cover for general acute wards and temporary maternity cover for the stroke ward.
Main duties
* Deliver a high quality generalist acute dietetic service to inpatients and outpatients across cardiology, stroke and general wards.
* Manage a defined caseload, undertake comprehensive nutritional assessments and develop, implement and review individualised care plans in line with clinical guidelines and departmental protocols.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers and families; contribute to discharge planning and continuity of care; advise on oral nutritional supplements and enteral feeds.
* Provide cross-cover as required and contribute to audit, service evaluation and quality improvement activities in line with HCPC standards and Trust policies.
* Participate in multidisciplinary team activities, ward rounds, MDT meetings and outpatient clinics; liaise with medical, nursing and allied health professionals to support patient-centred care.
* Contribute to discharge planning for patients requiring ongoing nutritional support and coordinate with community dietetic services and other agencies for safe transitions between inpatient and outpatient pathways.
* Maintain accurate clinical documentation, comply with information governance, and support supervision and education of student dietitians and dietetic assistants where appropriate.
* Support audit, service evaluation and quality improvement projects and participate in regular clinical supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development.
* Work in accordance with HCPC standards of conduct and Trust policies; promote health and safety, safeguarding, infection prevention and equality and diversity.

Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Nutrition & Dietetics
* HCPC registration
Desirable qualifications
* Post graduate qualification such as MSc Advanced Professional Practice in Dietetics or equivalent
Experience
* Knowledge and understanding of diverse backgrounds and perspectives; experience of Diversity and Inclusion challenges in the workplace
* Experience of teaching/presenting to groups of patients and healthcare professionals
* Experience of working in dietetics at band 6 level
Knowledge
* Post-registration experience in general dietetics
* Knowledge of cardiology dietetics or another relevant clinical area with application within clinical frameworks
Desirable knowledge
* Involvement in service improvement or audit projects within a dietetic or clinical setting
* Experience supervising dietetic students or support staff in a clinical setting
Skills
* Ability to contribute to the delivery and development of dietetic practice through clinical work, reflection and service activities
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team
* Good IT skills and experience with electronic patient records
* Effective time management and organisational skills to manage a defined caseload
