About the Electoral Commission
The Electoral Commission is the UK’s independent body overseeing elections and regulating political finance. Everything we do is about ensuring trust, participation, and integrity in the democratic process.
As we enter a bold new chapter under our five-year Corporate Plan, we are increasing our workforce and transforming how we plan and deliver core services. This post plays a central role in that journey.
About the role
We are looking for a skilled content designer to play an important role in improving the content on our website, making it clearer, more consistent and easier for people to use.
You will design content that enables everyone to take part in democracy, ensuring it is user‑centred, accessible and inclusive.
A key part of your role will be redesigning content and user journeys as part of our website improvement project. This will involve reviewing, redesigning and restructuring content so it’s based on evidence, user needs and data.
Working closely with the content team, subject‑matter experts and external partners, you will help to modernise how content is created, managed and governed across the website.
You will
* Lead the design, testing and iteration of high‑quality website content
* Use analytics, research and user insight to guide content decisions
* Collaborate with teams across the Commission to improve complex information
* Help establish content standards, patterns and governance for the website
* Mentor colleagues and champion user‑centred content design across the organisation
This is an exciting and high‑impact role where your expertise will directly shape how millions of people access trusted, democratic information.
About the team
You will join our Digital Communications team; a collaborative and forward‑thinking group committed to delivering user‑centred digital services. We value creativity, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
You’ll also be working alongside the Commission’s first in‑house digital service delivery team, who are building our postcode lookup service. This is a fantastic opportunity collaborate, share skills and learn as part of a multidisciplinary team working on a service used by over 40 million people.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who can combine strong content design skills with the ability to build good relationships and influence others. You’ll be confident using user research and data to shape decisions and explain your thinking clearly.
You’ll enjoy being part of a small, supportive team, working on a range of projects, and helping to drive positive change across the organisation.
Essential skills and experience
* Confident using data, analytics, research and user feedback to inform content decisions
* Ability to manage stakeholder relationships and influence decisions
* Experience working with complex information and multiple audiences
Why work for us?
This is an opportunity to join a growing digital team and help people easily find and understand how to take part in democracy.
We offer a strong total reward package, including:
* Flexible working and hybrid model (40% office minimum)
* 28 rising to 30 days annual leave + bank holidays
* Study support for professional qualifications
* Ongoing learning and development opportunities
* Ride2Work, eye care vouchers and more
The Electoral Commission is proud to be a Level 2 Disability Confident Employer. As part of this commitment, we aim to prioritise interviews for disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria listed in the job description.
There may, however, be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria. For example, during periods of exceptionally high application volumes or seasonal recruitment activity, the Commission may need to limit the overall number of interviews offered to both disabled and non-disabled applicants.
If you have a disability and would like to be considered under this commitment, please indicate this when you apply. We also welcome requests for reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process or within the workplace.
