The Friends of Highgate Cemetery Trust is seeking to appoint a Head of Public Programmes to lead the development of our approach to public engagement and to shape and deliver our public programmes. For almost two centuries, people have enjoyed the dramatic architecture and sinuous paths of an extraordinary funerary landscape: Highgate Cemetery. High above the busy metropolis, it is a much-needed sanctuary from the world below. Time and climate change have exposed the fragility of historic structures, while invasive species threaten the rich biodiversity. To ensure our future as a sanctuary for heritage, nature and community, we are embarking upon a seven year, £18m project called ‘Unlocking Highgate Cemetery’. Public Programming will play an important role in our mission to benefit a wide and diverse public; to bring our community together and to preserve this special place as a sanctuary for generations to come. The role-holder will establish relationships with community organisations and professional partners at a local, London-wide and national level to shape and deliver relevant public programmes and learning resources that address social, cultural and environmental needs. As we embark on the Development Phase of ‘Unlocking Highgate Cemetery’, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, this is a pivotal moment to join us.
