ARE YOU THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
An opportunity has arisen within our IT department for a Cybersecurity Infrastructure Engineer. Working as part of the IT teams at Mayflex and Routeco to design, implement and maintain our IT infrastructure whilst also focusing on cyber security, ensuring systems are secure and resilient against threats. We are looking for someone with initiative, determination, and structure who enjoys dealing with people to resolve their IT issues and works well as part of a team in a hybrid role with visits to our offices in Birmingham and Milton Keynes and the possibility of occasional travel.
* Provide security-by-design input into the design, build, and maintenance of the company’s on-premise and cloud infrastructure.
* Implement and maintain security measures to protect against cyber threats.
* Assist in planning and deploying group-wide security initiatives.
* Respond to and coordinate actions for security incidents raised by the local team, Group Cyber Security team and the Security Operations Centre (SOC).
* Identify and mitigate vulnerabilities, including those related to physical security.
* Maintain and enhance the security posture of company servers for both existing and new applications, on-premise and in Azure cloud environments.
* Monitor vulnerability scanning tools, address findings, and coordinate remediation with infrastructure and development teams.
* Support the development and testing of disaster recovery and backup plans, ensuring at least annual validation.
* Create and maintain up-to-date security documentation.
* Act swiftly and collaboratively in the event of a cyber incident to ensure optimal recovery.
* Stay current with emerging security threats and technological advancements.
* Prepare for and manage annual penetration testing with external vendors.
* Take ownership of personal development and contribute to performance reviews in line with Sonepar’ s core competencies and learning framework.
* Adhere to Health & Safety policies and procedures.
* Participate in the Security Steering Group and other relevant group meetings.
* Maintain and report on security-related items in the risk register.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING TO SONEPAR UK?
* Technical Cybersecurity Expertise: Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing security controls across hybrid environments, including endpoint protection, threat detection, and vulnerability management tools.
* Incident Response & Problem Solving: Ability to respond swiftly and effectively to security incidents, minimizing impact and ensuring rapid recovery through structured analysis and remediation.
* Threat Awareness & Risk Mitigation: Skilled in identifying vulnerabilities, assessing risks, and applying up-to-date security practices to defend against evolving cyber threats.
* Infrastructure Awareness: Solid understanding of core infrastructure components such as servers, networks, and storage systems, with the ability to support and secure both on-premise and cloud-based environments.
* Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to work closely with cross-functional teams—including IT, marketing, and customer service—to resolve issues and promote a security-first culture.
* Proactive Development: Demonstrates initiative in personal growth and contributes to team performance, aligned with Sonepar’s core competencies and development framework.
* Flexibility & Mobility: Willingness to travel between Birmingham and Milton Keynes offices, with adaptability to support business needs across locations.
* Familiarity with tools such as Palo Alto, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Tenable, Microsoft Sentinel, Zscaler, Tanium, and Illumio is advantageous.
* Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles, including threat detection, firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, and encryption.
* Working knowledge of network protocols and the ability to interpret and troubleshoot connectivity and security issues across diverse environments.
* Awareness of data storage concepts (e.g., SAN, NAS) and secure data handling practices.
* Strong systematic and problem-solving skills to assess risks, identify threats, and detect patterns or anomalies.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at both local and group levels.
* Clear and assured verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information to varied audiences.
* Proficient in written communication, including technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
* Strong time management and organizational skills to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
* Capable of managing competing demands and shifting priorities in alignment with business objectives.
* High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and quality.
* Resilience under pressure, especially in high-demand or incident response scenarios.
