About the Role
We're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Workshop Manager to lead our clients' team of engineers at their depot in Bourton-on-the-Water. Reporting to the Area Engineering Manager, you'll be part of the depot leadership team at the heart of delivering vital transport services across Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, and beyond.
You'll be responsible for ensuring the smooth, efficient, and safe running of the engineering function at the depot, overseeing a modern and growing fleet of more than 130 buses and coaches. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong organisational skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to motivate and guide a team of 10 multi-skilled engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, support, and motivate a team of engineers to achieve maintenance and performance targets.
Oversee daily workshop operations to ensure vehicles are serviced, inspected, and repaired to the highest standards and in compliance with DVSA regulations.
Plan and prioritise workloads effectively, ensuring maximum productivity and minimal downtime.
Manage parts ordering, stock control, and resource allocation efficiently.
Drive continuous improvement in safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records in line with regulatory standards.
Collaborate with the wider operations team to support fleet availability and service reliability.
Foster a positive and professional workshop environment built on teamwork and accountability.
About You
Proven experience in a workshop management or supervisory role within the transport or heavy vehicle industry.
Strong technical background in heavy/commercial vehicle maintenance.
In-depth understanding of DVSA compliance and safety standards.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Recognised engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent).
PCV licence (or willingness to obtain one) desirable.
