Description
The unit consists of two teams working together: the Water Resource Planning and Coastal Erosion Team (this post) and the Flood Risk Management Team. This post provides the opportunity to take forward work with major policy implications for Scotland in the face of the impacts of climate change. The role works closely with national bodies, academics and Local Authorities to progress work on coastal erosion and coastal change adaptation with the potential to make a real difference for coastal communities in Scotland.
It requires a capable self-starter who can work effectively with colleagues in the unit, and across SG, SEPA, NatureScot, local authorities, and with SpAds and Ministers while also maintaining good working relationships with wider collaborators. This role has line management responsibility for one B2 policy advisory.
Responsibilities
Hold lead responsibility for Coastal Erosion and Coastal Change Adaptation policy in Scotland.
Use strong communication and influencing skills to develop and implement policy with internal and external stakeholders - including Dynamic Coast, NatureScot, and SEPA.
Lead on the process of consideration and allocation of coastal change adaptation funds to local authorities, securing best use of available resources, through the Coastal Change Adaptation Advisory Group.
Ensure analysis and integration of evidence inform strategic policy development and lead on policy for dissemination of knowledge on coastal change adaptation.
Lead and coordinate work to update national Coastal Change Adaptation Plan guidance for local authorities.
Drive work on coastal monitoring using coastal LIDAR remote sensing surveys, including integration with wider national LIDAR surveys.
Work with RESAS to provide policy input into research projects.
Provide excellent, timely advice and briefing to senior officials and ministers. Providing support at Ministerial Meetings as required as well as oversight and coordination of correspondence at various levels, and PQs.
Provide supportive line management and development for one B2 Policy Advisor.
Contribute to wider flooding resilience work across the unit as climate change leads to increased coastal flooding risks.
Contribute to the collective development and continuous improvement of the team and wider unit.
