Who Are We:
Here at City of Doncaster Council, our Residential and Inspiring Futures Teams Service is responsible for caring for and supporting children in care through children’s homes, supported accommodation, and our care leaver services. Most of our in-house Children’s Homes are judged by Ofsted as “Outstanding” or “Good”. We are committed to providing a nurturing and therapeutic environment, fostering a supportive and empowering atmosphere for residents and staff, and continuously improving our services.
The Role:
This is a unique opportunity to be part of our journey. We are recruiting a Children’s Homes Manager to oversee two 2-bed children’s homes, focusing on relationships and therapeutic support. The successful candidate will lead and manage residential care staff, ensuring compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, the Children’s Act 2004, and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, as well as Ofsted requirements.
The role involves quality assurance, performance management, team building, cultural awareness, change management, and innovation. Experience managing budgets and staff is essential. As part of the wider leadership team, you will work to improve children’s experiences and ensure their voices influence service development.
You must have extensive experience working with Children in Care as a Registered Manager with good or outstanding Ofsted ratings, or as a Deputy Manager seeking career progression. Our goal is to provide high-quality care and support for children’s growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage two 2-bed residential children’s homes, ensuring a safe, nurturing environment.
* Implement therapeutic practices to promote emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
* Register with Ofsted and achieve good or outstanding inspection ratings.
* Drive excellence within the home through residential care knowledge.
* Manage budgets and financial aspects of the homes.
* Conduct quality assurance audits and develop action plans for improvements.
* Ensure service delivery meets children’s needs and supports their potential.
* Communicate effectively and act as an advocate for Doncaster Council and children.
* Manage equality, diversity, and foster a positive culture for children and young people.
* Develop and mentor a professional team, encouraging continuous learning.
* Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and other standards.
* Collaborate with partners, families, and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
About You:
* Within the last 5 years, at least 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential care role.
* At least 1 year of staff supervision and management experience.
* Hold or be willing to attain the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Child Care within 3 years.
* Willing to attend Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Signs of Safety training.
* Strong knowledge of therapeutic approaches in residential settings.
* Exceptional leadership, management, and communication skills.
* Thorough understanding of regulations, standards, and best practices.
* Passion for continuous improvement and making a difference in children’s lives.
