Senior Tree Officer Bromsgrove District Council Directorate: L.E.C Grade: 8 (£40,777 - £45,091) Hours: 37 per week Location: Bromsgrove & Redditch About the Role We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Tree Officer to join our Environmental Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in managing and protecting the tree and woodland assets across Bromsgrove and Redditch, ensuring our districts remain safe, attractive, and environmentally rich places to live and work. You will lead on arboricultural and silvicultural matters, provide expert advice to colleagues, councillors, partners and the public, and ensure that all statutory responsibilities relating to Tree Preservation Orders, Conservation Areas, High Hedges and woodland management are met. What You’ll Be Doing Managing the Councils’ tree and woodland stock in line with best arboricultural and ecological practice Leading and developing a professional, customer‑focused team using a systems‑thinking approach Planning consultations. Committee meetings. GIS work. Highways works. General day-to-day enquiries incl. site visits. Leading on Insurance/subsidence cases Leading on replanting schemes and woodland creation. Overseeing Tree Preservation Orders, Conservation Area notifications, High Hedge cases and woodland management. This includes creation of and applications for works on TPO’s. Preparing contract documentation and managing contractor performance Acting as an expert witness in enforcement and legal proceedings Planning and prioritising workloads to meet customer demand Working collaboratively with internal teams, external partners and other councils Managing budgets, resources, equipment and health & safety responsibilities Providing high‑quality written and verbal advice, reports and consultations Supporting out‑of‑hours services on a rota basis About You We’re looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and strong leadership skills. You will have: Essential Experience & Skills 3–4 years’ experience in arboriculture or silviculture At least 2 years’ experience managing staff Strong knowledge of arboricultural legislation, TPOs, planning consultations and tree‑related issues Experience managing budgets Excellent communication and customer service skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive, “can‑do” approach Understanding of health & safety responsibilities and safe working practices Qualifications Full UK driving licence LANTRA and/or a nationally recognised arboricultural qualification Good standard of literacy and numeracy (GCSE English & Maths or equivalent) Desirable Experience in wider environmental operations Knowledge of council policies Experience with procurement and contract management Familiarity with IT systems and databases Why Join Us?
