Applications are invited for a full time Consultant in Sedation and Special Care Dentistry to work across the University Dental Hospital, University Hospital Llandough and Community Dental Service in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. This exciting post offers a rare opportunity to shape the strategy for adult special care dental services across primary and secondary care, and to develop a 'Community of Practice' around Special Care Dentistry within the health board area.

Applicants must be on the General Dental Council Specialist list in Special Care Dentistry or within 6 months of completion of specialty training in Special Care Dentistry.
Main duties of the job The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to collaborate with advice to Cardiff University to help provide high quality education to undergraduates in the areas of Sedation and Special Care Dentistry.
The University Hospital of Wales is a regional and national centre for a number of medical specialties and this role will include opportunities to support the development of networks where medicine and dentistry interface.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training Full Registration with the General Dental Council
On Specialist Register for Special Care Dentistry or be eligible within six months of interview date
MFDS/ MJDF
PG Cert ME
Postgraduate Diploma / MSc in Special Care Dentistry and / or Sedation
Experience Recent (within 1 year prior to the date of advertisement) experience of planning and treating patients under General Anaesthesia
Recent (within 1 year prior to the date of advertisement) experience of treating patients with transmucosal sedation.
Supervision/support of Dental Core Trainees
Demonstrable knowledge of Value-based and Prudent Healthcare
Clinical Governance Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving clinical practice.
Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance management
Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation
Evidence of quality improvement project
Research Ability to critically appraise research
Active Research Interests
Evidence of initiating, progressing and concluding research projects with publication
Management Commitment to participating in and understanding of the management process
