The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, people-focused and highly motivated Laboratory Manager to lead our embryology team in London.
This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the laboratory, maintaining the highest possible standards of clinical quality, patient safety and regulatory compliance, while supporting and developing a high-performing team.
You’ll play an important role in shaping laboratory performance, driving continuous improvement and ensuring patients receive the very best care throughout their fertility journey.
This opportunity would suit someone who combines strong technical embryology expertise with calm leadership, excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Leading and managing the embryology laboratory on a day-to-day basis
* Supporting, mentoring and developing embryology team members
* Ensuring the laboratory operates in full compliance with HFEA regulations and internal quality standards
* Overseeing laboratory quality management, audits, SOP reviews and service improvements
* Monitoring laboratory KPIs, performance metrics and corrective actions where needed
* Performing and overseeing advanced embryology procedures including IVF, ICSI, embryo culture and cryopreservation
* Managing laboratory staffing, workload planning and weekend cover
* Working closely with consultants, nurses and operational teams to ensure a seamless patient experience
* Supporting patients directly by communicating treatment updates and sensitive information with professionalism and empathy
* Managing laboratory equipment servicing, environmental monitoring and quality control processes
* Driving a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and collaboration across the clinic
What We’re Looking For
Essential Experience
* Significant experience within a fertility laboratory or embryology environment
* Strong understanding of IVF laboratory procedures and quality management systems
* Previous leadership or supervisory experience within an embryology team
* Detailed understanding of HFEA regulations and laboratory compliance requirements
* Experience managing audits, SOPs and laboratory performance monitoring
* Confident communicator with the ability to manage sensitive conversations professionally
* Highly organised with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
* Ability to lead effectively within a fast-paced clinical environment
Qualifications
* Master’s degree in a relevant scientific subject
* HCPC registration preferred, or willingness to work towards registration
* Minimum 5 years’ experience within a relevant embryology or fertility setting
