Offer description

We are looking for two passionate Health Play Specialists to join our Paediatric Oncology/haematology Outpatient Unit. This role is part of a well-established, valued Play team that is proactive and determined in providing positive hospital experiences and quality intervention for children and families. The unit cares for children (0‑16 years) with haematological or oncological diagnoses, including general anaesthetic procedures, awake scans, consultations, tests, infusions and chemotherapy.

Key Responsibilities include:

* Creating positive experiences for patients in hospital.
* Using evidence‑based practice to assess, plan, and implement therapeutic interventions aimed at reducing anxiety while supporting children and their families.
* Encouraging normal development and rehabilitation by connecting with patients and providing appropriate play opportunities.
* Collaborating closely with other Play Specialists, recognising the emotional needs of children in hospital.
* Supervising and mentoring students, and working collaboratively with the wider play team to develop projects that enhance the service.
* Prioritising workload and acting as a motivated, creative thinker to build on existing skills.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

* Excellent knowledge and skills in therapeutic and normalising play.
* Deep understanding of the impact of hospitalisation on children and their families.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to work autonomously and with multidisciplinary team members.
* Holding an FdA in Healthcare Play Specialism or equivalent.
* Valid registration with the Society of Health Play Specialists.
* Return to practice or year 2 of Health Play Specialism FdA/Apprenticeship applicants are welcome.
