Description Justice Worker - fixed term until 31/08/2026 Newkirkgate Social Work Centre Salary: £33,287 - £39,129 (pro-rata for part-time) Hours: 21 per week, 52 weeks Your role will be to support people in prison or the community, on a statutory or voluntary basis, contributing to safety planning, risk assessment and risk management services and interventions, to reduce reoffending, vulnerability and harm and support desistance and wellbeing. Contribute to the provision of agreed priority work and/or accredited programmes. Justice social work services are provided within the framework of the Social Work (Scotland) Act 1968, National Objectives and Standards for Social Work Services in the Criminal Justice System, and Council policies and guidelines. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory. Follow us on X at @edincounciljobs View Justice Worker job description Responsibilities Experience: Undertaking face to face Interviews with people who have complex needs and managing a case load. Experience of working in partnership with other agencies. Experience recording information on systems and/or databases. Experience/understanding of, or willingness to learn about pro-social modelling techniques and evidence-based practice in relation to people involved in Justice services. Experience of working with individuals with complex needs, who experience emotional distress and display challenging and behaviour. Experience of working with people who have had contact with the criminal justice system. (Desirable) Experience of working with people who have experienced difficulties as a result of substance use, mental health and past trauma. (Desirable) Experience of group work. (Desirable) Knowledge, Skills and Understanding: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – verbal, non-verbal and written. An understanding of the Justice System, in particular community sentences and supervision expectations of local social work services. IT skills and use IT recording systems and databases. An understanding of the issues surrounding social inclusion for women. Ability to work in a multi -agency partnerships. Ability to show initiative and work towards achieving agreed standards, in a fast-paced environment. An understanding of the issues surrounding working with people with complex needs who may have experienced trauma. A knowledge of services available to meet the needs of people involved with Justice such as health, housing, benefit advice and substance use agencies. (Desirable) Understanding of the impact of trauma. (Desirable) Understanding of the impact of domestic abuse. (Desirable) Understanding of adult and child protection. (Desirable) Qualifications and Training: HNC in Social Care plus extensive experience in a care or Justice setting. Job Specific Requirements: Occasional evening and weekend work.
