The Role
The Estate department is managed by the Estate manager, who is responsible for all infrastructure matters. The team consists of 2 further Estates Technicians who manage the day-to-day security and maintenance. The work undertaken by the Estates Department is varied, ranging from reactive maintenance and security to major capital development projects.
The School is seeking a highly motivated Estates Technician to provide security and estates maintenance services across the School. The technician will help maintain the premises, prevent damage or loss of property, and minimize health and safety risks.
Please note that this role requires the successful candidate to live on site and perform some duties outside regular hours.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensure buildings are secure and accessible as needed
2. Maintain security barriers
3. Coordinate with the Events Manager for access during lettings
4. Manage infrastructure for extreme weather conditions
5. Respond to emergencies and liaise with emergency services
6. Participate in the on-call rota
7. Provide porter services, including setting up rooms for activities
8. Manage deliveries and dispatch of goods
9. Operate heating systems to maintain temperatures
10. Ensure adequate heating and lighting
11. Inspect and maintain drains and gullies
12. Supervise external contractors, ensuring safety and safeguarding compliance
13. Conduct site inspections and perform repairs (painting, carpentry, plumbing, glazing)
14. Perform health and safety checks (legionella, fire safety, outdoor equipment, pool)
15. Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the site, including waste disposal
16. Maintain external buildings and fixtures
17. Perform emergency cleaning as needed
18. Store hazardous and non-hazardous materials properly
19. Manage parking during School events
20. Assist with managing the school’s mini bus fleet
21. Report faults or damages to the Estates Manager
Skills and Qualifications
* Basic education with literacy and numeracy
* Experience in building maintenance
* Full UK driving license
* Knowledge of health and safety practices
* Reliable team player with good communication skills
* Customer service-oriented
* Willing to undertake further training
* Positive, proactive attitude; able to work independently and under pressure
Desirable
* Experience in schools or residential environments
* Trade qualification in plumbing or property repair and maintenance
