Offer description

Overview

GE Aerospace is a world-leading provider of jet engines, components, and integrated systems for commercial and military aircraft. This role focuses on turning product concepts into manufacturable reality through NPI processes, manufacturing process design, facility footprint planning, technology selection and quality planning to demonstrate a capable manufacturing pilot line.

Responsibilities

* Generate manufacturing plans such as optimized cell layouts, value stream maps, timing charts and process flow diagrams to maximise ROI and reduce hours/costs per unit while delivering process capability, cycle time and equipment availability targets.
* Collaborate with the product manufacturing engineering team and materials & process engineers to promote failure mode avoidance in future designs and equipment specifications; develop the combined industrialisation strategy.
* Influence design to ensure manufacturing is represented during product development and that design for manufacture/assembly is prioritized throughout the programme.
* Champion APQP and PPAP within the NPI process; drive the creation of PFMEA and Control Plans and derive facility requirements for inline process control to demonstrate a capable process on site and within the supply chain.
* Coordinate with suppliers and internal Sourcing to plan equipment and tooling acquisition, and map installation and commissioning plans; lead the development of a pilot line to define a blueprint for a scalable facility showcasing new technology, automation and a Lean operating system.
* Support value engineering activities to inform make/buy decisions on core/non-core parts and components.
* Use virtual manufacturing tools to simulate workflow, automation and space requirements to inform manufacturing engineering plans and support investment.
* Serve as the point of contact between the NPI team and other support functions to efficiently coordinate and manage the Manufacturing Engineering agenda.
* Adopt a hands-on approach to work directly with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve manufacturing engineering issues using data, rationale and logic.
* Demonstrate knowledge in the specification, installation and commissioning of robotics, automation and controls.
* Show demonstrable expertise in one or more: high volume composite manufacture (CFRP/RTM), CNC machining, hydraulic systems, high-tolerance part assembly, and NDT (X-Ray/Ultrasonics).
* Experience with 3D CATIA, 2D AutoCAD and/or other CAD packages.
* Experience in a highly regulated industry (preferably Aviation but not essential).
* Knowledge of 3D printing/rapid prototyping tools, CAD packages and part production.
* Experience incorporating condition-based monitoring and real-time data acquisition into a 'factory of the future' shop floor environment.
* Broad experience with virtual manufacturing and tooling/process flow simulation software solutions.
* Be familiar with Net Present Value and Future Value calculations; a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline with experience in technical project/program management within Manufacturing Engineering.
* Direct experience with an NPI process including facility design, commissioning and technical specification in an automated manufacturing environment (e.g., automotive, FMCG, warehouse logistics).
* Knowledge of problem-solving methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, PPS, RedX) and APQP requirements; strong understanding and experience implementing APQP in product development and manufacturing facility design.
* Experience working with, managing and coordinating subcontracted suppliers and vendors.
* Knowledge of health & safety (H&S) and construction design & management (CDM) regulations and means of compliance.
* A self-starter, able to work independently with little direction toward a business goal.
* Ability to influence up and down the organisation with a data-driven approach.

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline with experience in technical project/program management within a Manufacturing Engineering function.
* Direct experience with NPI processes including facility design, commissioning and technical specification in an automated manufacturing environment.
* Knowledge of APQP and related quality planning tools.

Benefits

* FlexChoice benefits plan offerings including non-contributory Pension, Life Assurance, Group income protection, Private medical cover and holiday allowance.
* Security clearance BPSS is required and must be maintained; eligibility considerations apply.

Notes

GE supports flexible working arrangements where possible and is committed to a positive work-life balance. This role is for GE Aerospace, focusing on manufacturing proof of concept and scalable pilot lines to enable next-generation propulsion systems.
