Overview
Graphic Arts Technician II role at UMass Boston. The Large Format & Print Specialist within Quinn Graphics will be responsible for print and installation of large format posters, banners, custom wallpaper, wayfinding and directional signage; assisting customers in the selection of presentation materials; processing print requests; and facilitating the production schedule of print jobs on the large format and production printers, and the associated finishing equipment. The incumbent will operate large format and production printers, laminators, trimmers, contour cutters, review graphic design files for appropriate format settings, and utilize the department’s internal print management, cost estimating and billing system (MIS). Incumbent also supervises the work of student employees; provide on-the-job training to new staff, provide assistance to the overall operations of the department as needed.
Responsibilities
* Print and install large format posters, banners, customer wallpaper, wayfinding and directional signage both on campus and on roadways around campus.
* Design/prepare electronic artwork and adjust or manipulate electronic print files to fit specifications; proofread and edit copy for accuracy and clarity.
* Operate and adjust large format and production printers, laminators, trimmers, contour cutters; calibrate equipment and troubleshoot minor malfunctions; log service calls when necessary; perform routine maintenance as needed.
* Provide direct customer service to university faculty, staff and students; assist customers in formatting electronic documents for digital production printers and large format printers; assist in selecting presentation materials and planning event needs for wayfinding or identification signage.
* Assist with routine clerical and sales duties in the operation of Quinn Graphics/Copy Centers; process cash and credit card transactions and reconcile receipts.
* Utilize print management system for cost estimates, job costing, job tracking and cost chargebacks.
* Determine availability of resources/materials and manage supplies to complete printed matter on schedule.
* Maintain inventory of substrates, supplies, toner, parts and presentation materials; consult with vendors for materials and technical support as needed.
* Schedule and supervise work performed by student support staff; provide on-the-job training to assigned employees.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Minimum of two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in graphic arts, graphic design, drawing, or digital vector illustrating work.
* Prior digital print production experience preferred; strong experience with reviewing/manipulating digital/electronic print files from desktop graphics applications preferred.
* Prior experience with wide-format printing equipment strongly preferred.
* Strong computer application skills; willingness to work evenings and/or weekends required.
* Possession of a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license required at the time of hire and maintained during employment.

Salary and Status
Grade: 17 | Hourly Rate: 29.21 | This is a non-exempt union position. All official salary offers must be approved by Human Resources.
