About the Role
Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and thrive both in and out of the classroom?
We’re looking for resilient, empathetic, and proactive individuals to join our team as SEMH Behaviour Support Mentors, working with secondary-age students (11–16) who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and/or Special Educational Needs (SEN).
You’ll play a vital part in supporting students who may experience:
* Anxiety, depression, or frustration
* Social or emotional withdrawal
* Non-cooperation or disruptive behaviour
* Verbal aggression
* Difficulties managing relationships or emotions
Every day, you’ll make a genuine difference with helping students build trust, confidence, and independence in a supportive, structured environment.

What You’ll Do
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and additional learning needs.
* Build trusting relationships that help students feel valued, safe, and motivated.
* Support teachers in delivering a tailored curriculum, adapting materials and approaches to meet individual needs.
* Encourage emotional regulation and use positive strategies to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and confidently.
* Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to create and implement personalised support plans.
* Act as a positive role model, promoting resilience, respect, and consistency every day.

Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants from all walks of life who are passionate about supporting young people. You might be:
* A Sports/Music Coach who understands motivation, teamwork, and structure.
* A Psychology, Criminology, or Education Graduate eager to apply your learning in practice.
* A Support Worker, Youth Worker, Motivational Speaker or Teaching Assistant with hands-on experience supporting SEMH or SEN needs.
* Previous experience working with those in care / vulnerable or varied backgrounds (socially, culturally, economically)
* Or simply someone who has life experience, patience, and empathy and wants to make a difference.
No formal experience? No problem as your attitude, commitment, and willingness to learn are what matter most.

* Resilience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
* A calm, consistent approach to behaviour management.
* A current DBS (or willingness to obtain one before starting).
