Our Mission At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The Valo, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), 'zero emissions' aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky. We won't realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to 'redefine' aerospace best practices. We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals. Valo is targeting airliner-level safety certification in 2028 ahead of entering service with our airline and operator customers. What to Expect As a Multi-Skilled Test Technician, you will play a key hands-on role in supporting the development of Vertical Aerospace’s next-generation eVTOL aircraft. Working within a fast-paced and evolving test environment, you’ll contribute directly to the build, integration and commissioning of complex test rigs used to verify critical aircraft systems on the path to certification. This role offers a high level of variety and responsibility. You’ll be trusted to work with minimal supervision while maintaining exceptional standards of safety, quality and workmanship. You can expect to collaborate closely with Test Engineers and other disciplines, take ownership of your work, and contribute positively to a solutions-focused team culture. Periods of shift work and travel to other South West test locations may be required to support peak test activity. What You’ll Do Build and fit mechanical components, actuators and assemblies in line with engineering drawings and defined test requirements, delivering high-quality and repeatable results. Support the assembly, integration and commissioning of test rigs used across development and verification programmes. Apply instrumentation such as strain gauges, sensors and harnessing to components and aircraft structures (training provided). Assist with test operations, working closely with Test Engineers to ensure test activities are carried out safely, efficiently and in compliance with procedures. Maintain accurate documentation including job cards, build logs, technical library updates and ERP entries to ensure full traceability of work completed. Uphold excellent standards of FOD control, tool control and workshop discipline, maintaining a clean, safe and well-organised working environment. Support general on-site activities including goods-in, stores tasks and sourcing equipment or components for test rig modifications. Provide occasional support to facilities activities and work shift patterns during periods of high test demand. Travel to other test locations within the South West when required. What You’ll Bring Experience in mechanical assembly, machining, hydraulics or test-rig build within aerospace, automotive or advanced engineering environments. Strong practical skills with confidence using a wide range of hand and power tools. High attention to detail and the ability to work to demanding schedules without compromising safety or quality. Confidence working autonomously in a development test environment, with sound technical judgement. Practical problem-solving capability, including identifying and sourcing suitable components for minor design or rig modifications in collaboration with Test Engineers. A flexible, proactive and team-oriented mindset, with willingness to support across disciplines as required. Strong commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental best practice, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement. HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Forklift training beneficial but not essential. First Aid and Fire Marshal training will be provided. LI-LW1 What can you expect from us?
