Would you like to join the vibrant Stroud Trinity Rooms team? We are looking for a chef with experience of catering for 100+ people to join a job-share running our Friday community cafe.
The arrangements are very flexible. You'll arrange with our lead chef which Fridays you will work. The pay is for a working week of 8 hours, consisting of: cooking on Fridays (9-3), planning time beforehand, and occasional meetings on other days, which can be attended remotely.
You'll work with our volunteer cooks, helping them to produce delicious, nutritious meals, using largely surplus food. These meals will include provision for various special diets. You will be the only paid member of staff on this team. Experience of working with volunteers is desirable but not essential.
At Trinity Rooms we aim to work sociocratically but don't expect you to be an expert in this. Training is provided.
Pay is £120 a week and the job is on a self-employed basis. We will be reviewing our rates of pay within the next year.
Position Overview
The Community Cafe Cook Is responsible for
● overseeing a team of volunteers to prepare a lunchtime meal every Friday
● maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen
● ensuring the smooth running of the community cafe kitchen
Key Responsibilities
Menu creation:
● Develop menus catering to the diverse needs of our community (i.e. dietary restrictions or
preferences such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and traditional local meals)
● Reduce waste – adapt meal plans based on available ingredients (often surplus food
sources elsewhere); ensure minimal food waste.
Meal preparation, including volunteer management:
● Oversee planning, preparing, and cooking meals
● Supervise and guide volunteers in the kitchen, providing guidance on cooking, food
handling, and kitchen safety
● Create a positive and inclusive environment for volunteers, ensuring they feel valued and
involved in the kitchen's activities
● Support skill development in volunteers, enabling a potential move towards paid work
Community Engagement:
● Engage with cafe guests where appropriate, offering a warm, inclusive atmosphere.
Collaboration:
● Liaise with the kitchen coordinator about ingredients and kitchen equipment.
Kitchen Maintenance:
● Ensure the kitchen is clean and organised
● Ensure that all food preparation, storage, and handling meets health and safety regulations
● Monitor temperature control of food and cleanliness of working areas.
Policies:
● Is familiar with, and abides by, the policies which determine the appropriate running of
Trinity Rooms
Governance
● Participate in the Food Circle which meets monthly (remotely or in person)
● Collaborate with other circles as necessary to ensure decisions are made collectively and
transparently.
