Norfolk Youth Justice Service is looking to recruit an Education, Training & Employment (ETE) Coordinator to take the lead role across the service for all ETE matters and support children in youth justice to reach their full potential.

We are keen to appoint an experienced education professional who is passionate about improving outcomes for the most vulnerable children.

The role will involve engaging children who may have experienced trauma, previous school exclusions and rejection and may have an entrenched mistrust of adults. This countywide role is part of the Education, Training and Employment team within our Norfolk Youth Justice Service Partnership Strand.

All About You

The successful candidate must be passionate about and have experience in improving the education, training and employment opportunities of vulnerable children. You will have experience working with vulnerable children and the ability to deliver creative interventions.

You need to be someone who can work collaboratively with other youth justice colleagues, educational providers, and partner agencies to influence, challenge and advocate for children in youth justice.

You will have up to date knowledge of the education system, guidance and legislation, and pathways into further education, training and employment. You will be familiar with legislation and national guidance relating to the education of children in care and those with special educational needs.

Our Norfolk Youth Justice Service (NYJS) is a statutory multi-agency partnership hosted within Norfolk County Council, established by section 37 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.

Our aim is to prevent children and young people from offending whilst safeguarding their welfare, protecting the public and helping restore the damage caused to the victims of their crimes.

Our key outcomes, prioritised nationally by the Ministry of Justice are to:

1. Reduce the number of children and young people coming into the youth justice system (first time entrants)
2. Reduce re-offending by children and young people
3. Reduce the numbers of young people going into custody (prison) either sentenced or on remand.

The postholder will be expected to work flexibly, with a clear expectation of evening, weekend and bank holiday working. This includes work on a rota basis to cover weekend and bank holiday statutory contact’s cover. In addition, the postholder will be required to travel to other work locations in and out of the county, which are not always on public transport routes, including home visits and visits to secure establishments.

The postholder will be required to work with children who have demonstrated violent or sexually harmful behaviours towards other children and/or adults, and who present a high risk of harm to others.

This is a great opportunity to join our supportive team and make a real difference to children to enable positive outcomes.
