Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic individual to join the Cancer Services team as an MDT Co-Ordinator at Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust. We offer agile working for 20% of the week and flexible start and finish times to support home life commitments. The candidate will provide administrative co-ordination and support to a multidisciplinary team within cancer services. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, flexible individual with advanced IT, administrative, secretarial and organisational skills. The post holder will be required to have excellent communication skills and an ability to deal with complex situations with service users and clinicians over the phone and in person. Previous healthcare experience is essential. An ability to work autonomously and to respond quickly to requests is required in addition to the ability to use your own initiative.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, coordinate and administrate MDT meetings for cancer patients, including maintaining a list of patients to be discussed, case notes, film and results collection and recording requisite information at MDT meetings (attendance, records and minute taking with live data and outcomes).
* Produce and maintain lists of all new cancer patients diagnosed in the Trust using a variety of sources and IT systems (e.g., IPM, CRIS, ICE) and liaising with Clinical and Non-Clinical staff within Directorates.
* Track patients through their pathway from referral to treatment; ensure tracking is up to date daily and monitor cancer waiting times; liaise with clinicians, nurses and administration staff regarding the patient pathway and potential breaches at MDT meetings.
* Develop knowledge of cancer tumour sites, patient pathways and terminology; use cancer data to inform/advise colleagues and collate/process routine data weekly to provide timely information on waiting times and patient pathways for the Trust, Commissioners, and relevant authorities.
* Continually develop skills in hospital information systems; ensure training is updated; minimise risk in the use of sensitive information and adhere to data protection principles; respect equality and diversity; stay up to date with national and local cancer data issues.
* Support clinical teams in developing accurate and complete cancer datasets; contribute to surveys and audits; flexible approach to working hours.
* Cover MDT meetings and tracking for other areas as required; perform general clerical duties such as filing, photocopying and collating documents.
Key Tasks
* Track patients through their pathway from referral to treatment.
* Follow up on diagnostic testing and ensure appropriate staffing are aware of the patient’s pathway.
* Ensure all tracking is kept up to date on a daily basis.
* Monitor cancer waiting times and inform managers of changes; highlight potential breaches at MDT meetings.
* Ensure all casenotes and relevant paperwork are available for MDT meetings; send referral information to other Trusts or services as appropriate.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential: GCSE English and Mathematics Grade C or above
* Essential: NVQ3 or equivalent
* Essential: Word processing/Excel skills
Experience
* Essential: Demonstrable experience of working with healthcare professionals or in the NHS; experience of inputting accurate data into computer systems; knowledge of confidential information handling; supervisory experience in a clerical setting.
* Desirable: Experience of audit and data collection.
Knowledge/Skills
* Essential: Knowledge of Health Records systems; ability to use databases and emails; excellent computer skills; ability to communicate across clinical staff; ability to prioritise workload; flexible approach to work.
* Desirable: Knowledge of patient pathways.
Personal Attributes
* Essential: Excellent verbal and written communication; good time management and organisation; ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative; enthusiastic and highly motivated.
