About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Electoral Services Support Officer to join our Electoral Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play an essential role in supporting the democratic process across the borough.
You will provide administrative and clerical support for electoral registration, absent voting, and the delivery of elections. With 255,000 electors, 24 wards, and 3 parliamentary constituencies, this is a fast‑paced environment where accuracy, professionalism, and excellent customer service are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Electoral Registration & Absent Voting
Process, check, scan and sort registration and absent voting application forms.
Determine the validity of individual, household, special category and overseas elector registration applications.
Investigate and resolve queries, including applications that fail verification.
Update elector records, process deletions, and undertake data searches as required.
Provide accurate advice to the public and political stakeholders by phone, email and in person.
Maintain orderly filing systems for registration and absent vote records.Election Administration
Assist with receiving and processing candidate nomination papers.
Support with booking polling stations and maintaining records of election staff.
Help prepare and check poll cards, ballot papers, postal voting packs, and other official election documents.
Assist with preparing and checking polling station equipment and stock.
Support manual handling tasks such as moving ballot boxes, booths, and election materials.
About You
We're looking for someone who can bring:
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Strong administrative abilities and attention to detail.
The ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines-especially during key election periods.
Confidence working with ICT systems and Microsoft Office.
The ability to handle confidential and politically sensitive information discreetly.
An understanding of how local government operates (desirable).
Experience in electoral administration (desirable but not essential).
Key Performance Expectations
Deliver excellent customer service and ensure responses meet service standards.
Contribute to the smooth running of elections with full compliance with statutory requirements.
Support efforts to increase electoral registration, turnout, and accessibility.
