Are you a Mechanical Engineer who wants to join us in the development of the next generation of Defence Communications equipment across Land, Sea, and Air?
At Leonardo, we are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to work within the development and delivery of Communications and Electronic Counter Measure Products.
This role requires the Mechanical Engineer to develop innovative solutions to overcome challenges set by our Customers and will build on decades of domain-leading heritage.
The successful candidate will be involved in developing peers, passing on experiences, and imbuing best practices to support the continued growth and development of the Mechanical Team.
All members of the Mechanical Engineering Team are encouraged to continually develop their technical skills within design, structural & thermal analyses, and model-driven engineering aspects of Mechanical Engineering.
Leonardo offers a mix of on-site and remote working; with attendance at our Southampton facility required when Programme requirements dictate.
Applicants must be eligible to meet full UK Security Clearance and ITAR classification requirements.
What you’ll do as a Lead Mechanical Engineer:
* Responsible for Mechanical Engineering solutions throughout the entire Engineering Lifecycle, ensuring all requirements including product quality, safety, reliability, testability, and sustainability are considered.
* Approval and ownership of Mechanical solutions for harsh environments (Shock, Vibration, EMC, RADHAZ, salt fog, etc.).
* Ensure quality and consistency of detailed design, including numerical calculations and tolerance studies.
* Mechanical design and development using 3D CAD tools (preferably PTC Creo).
* Support the successful resolution of technical problem investigations.
* Review and approve sub-contractor solutions, including test and validation plans.
* Support the development of Mechanical Engineers within the local Team.
* Chair reviews of Mechanical designs in accordance with business and industry standards.
* Support the creation of Functional Processes and Best Practices.
