Your next chapter
At Travel Chapter, we’re proud to be a B Corp and a people first business. As we continue to grow, we’re strengthening our commitment to doing things the right way for our customers, our communities and our teams. Our Legal and Compliance function plays a central role in helping us stay informed, compliant and accountable.
We are now looking for a Legal and Compliance Officer to join our team, with a stronger focus on legal work and a complementary understanding of compliance and data protection. You’ll support colleagues across the business with legal queries, commercial contracts and regulatory matters, while also helping to maintain high standards in our compliance activities.
This role would suit an individual early in their legal career, ideally with real-world legal experience and an interest in broadening their remit across compliance and governance. Exposure to in-house environments is advantageous, though not essential, as long as you’re comfortable working across varied matters and stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing
Legal (primary focus):
• Reviewing and drafting commercial agreements and contract terms
• Providing colleagues with guidance on legal queries, particularly those with regulatory implications
• Conducting legal research and preparing written advice or briefing notes
• Supporting the negotiation and administration of third-party contracts
• Organising and maintaining legal and contract information in our systems
• Assisting with legal complaints and filings where required
• Supporting the delivery of internal legal training, knowledge shares and updates
• Contributing to the operational running of the legal function through administrative support
Compliance & Data Protection (secondary focus):
• Supporting the logging and coordination of Data Subject Rights requests
• Recording and tracking incidents, complaints and breaches
• Assisting with annual Information Asset Register updates and data mapping
• Preparing compliance data and reports for internal stakeholders
• Supporting the development and monitoring of compliance policies and procedures
• Contributing to the preparation of documents ahead of Data Governance Committee meetings
• Providing administrative support across compliance activities
What you’ll bring
• Up to two years’ experience in a legal role or similar environment
• A legal qualification such as CILEX or solicitor (or working towards), or equivalent experience
• Exposure to commercial contracts (drafting, review or administration)
• A genuine interest in compliance, governance and data protection
• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise across multiple tasks
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with great attention to detail
• Confidence handling confidential information and sensitive data
• Good Microsoft Office skills and confidence working with digital systems
Who you are
• Honest, methodical and detail focussed
• Curious and keen to understand systems, processes and how they can be improved
• Professional, personable and able to build positive relationships across teams
• Enthusiastic, willing to learn and open to developing new skills
• Comfortable managing tight deadlines with good judgement and clear thinking
• A supportive team player who can also work independently when needed
