Specialist Dietitian – Frailty and Acute Medicine
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide specialist Dietetic treatment to a caseload of frailty patients using evidence-based, patient-centered principles to assess, implement, and evaluate interventions.
2. Support and develop the Dietetic frailty service and act as a clinical specialist alongside the MDT.
3. Regularly evaluate treatment plans to ensure they are safe and effective.
4. Provide advice on the use of oral nutritional supplements, enteral, and parenteral nutrition as required.
5. Act as an independent practitioner, professionally accountable and responsible for aspects of own work.
6. Prioritize own work, balancing patient-related and professional demands in consultation with Team Leaders.
7. Work alongside consultants, specialist nurses, and ward staff to provide specialist nutritional treatment plans as part of holistic patient care.
8. Provide expert advice on the management of patients with complex clinical and nutritional needs, liaising with Team Leaders and other Dietitians.
9. Attend ward rounds, MDT meetings, and best interest meetings as needed, promoting understanding of the role of diet and nutrition.
10. Provide training to healthcare professionals regarding nutritional care and interventions, including presentations.
11. Contribute to developing diet sheets and educational materials.
12. Collect data for service monitoring and contribute to local policy development based on national guidance.
13. Identify and undertake clinical audits.
14. Maintain professional competence by keeping up-to-date with current research and practices.
15. Participate in personal and professional development activities.
16. Provide clinical supervision and support to Band 5 Dietitians and Dietetic Assistants.
17. Work collaboratively within the Inpatient Dietitian, Nutrition, and MDT Teams to maximize service potential.
18. Gain experience in specialized areas of dietetics as required, including shadowing and providing cover.
19. Support other dietetic colleagues and clinical areas to ensure timely patient care.
20. Adhere to Trust policies, procedures, professional guidelines, and the Code of Conduct.
21. Commit to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
22. Note: This role requires an enhanced DBS check (£54.50) and joining the DBS update service (£16 annually).
