Job Description
Senior Nurse Lead – responsible for leading the inpatient nursing team at Herriot Hospice, Thirsk, delivering high‑quality, compassionate hospice care to patients and supporting families and colleagues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage the inpatient nursing team to deliver exceptional hospice care.
- Ensure safe, effective, and patient‑centred care at all times.
- Co‑ordinate the day‑to‑day operational management of the inpatient unit.
- Support, supervise, and develop nursing staff and Health Care Assistants.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and professional excellence.
- Ensure compliance with clinical governance, infection prevention, health and safety, and regulatory standards.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to achieve the best outcomes for patients and families.
- Lead service developments and support the effective implementation of change initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for a candidate who:
- Is a registered nurse with a valid nursing qualification.
- Has at least two years of post‑qualification experience and current NMC registration, having passed your first validation.
- Has experience in specialist palliative care.
- Demonstrates strong communication skills and a calm, empathetic approach to complex care situations.
- Has effective line management experience and is capable of teaching, coaching, and mentoring staff.
- Shows a compassionate and approachable leadership style with a passion for delivering high‑quality palliative and end‑of‑life care.
