1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant in SEMH Provision – Secondary School, Middlesbrough Experience managing challenging behaviour essential Location: Middlesbrough Job Duties: Provide 1:1 support to a secondary school student with Special Educational Needs and Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a specialist provision Implement individualised education plans and behaviour management strategies tailored to secondary-age students Assist in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment appropriate for teenagers Support students in developing social skills, emotional regulation, and resilience Manage challenging behaviour effectively and de-escalate situations when necessary Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, pastoral staff, and other professionals to ensure the holistic development of students Required Qualifications: Experience working with secondary school-aged children or young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and safeguarding procedures Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills: GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths Previous experience in a similar role within a secondary educational setting Understanding of SEMH needs and effective strategies to support secondary school students Strong communication and interpersonal skills suitable for working with teenagers Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond to challenging situations Working Conditions: Work primarily within a secondary school setting Full-time hours with occasional flexibility required Regular interaction with secondary school students, teachers, pastoral teams, and other educational professionals All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
