Title: Legal Secretary
Location: Macclesfield
Purpose of the Role
The Legal Secretary will provide essential administrative and secretarial support to senior fee earners, ensuring the efficient delivery of client services. This role involves undertaking some fee-earning work under supervision, maintaining a high level of organisation, and demonstrating initiative to support the smooth running of the Private Client team.
Key Responsibilities (not exhaustive)

Manage and prioritise workload to ensure timely and efficient service delivery.
*
Type dictations and produce high-quality correspondence and documentation.
*
Support fee earners by preparing court documents, bundles, and other legal paperwork accurately and to deadlines.
*
Handle client communications professionally, including taking calls, providing updates, and managing correspondence—without offering legal advice.
*
Deputise for fee earners during absences, ensuring client matters continue to progress smoothly.
*
Prepare and send standard and non-standard letters, ensuring accuracy and adherence to house style.
*
Open, manage, and maintain client files (both paper and electronic) in line with company policies and compliance standards.
*
Generate bills, process payments, and liaise with the accounts team as required.
*
Coordinate administrative duties such as scanning, copying, binding, booking couriers, and managing filing systems.
*
Provide general secretarial support including booking appointments, scheduling meetings, managing diaries, and making travel arrangements.
*
Participate in training and self-development, maintaining up-to-date legal, administrative, and IT skills.
Skills & Attributes

Excellent typing skills (audio typing 70+ wpm preferred) with strong accuracy and attention to detail.
*
Highly organised, efficient, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*
A collaborative team player who demonstrates professionalism and a positive attitude.
*
Proficient in Microsoft Word and case management systems, with the ability to manage and modify workflows.
*

Experience & Education
*
Previous experience as a Legal Secretary, ideally within a Private Client department.
*
Relevant legal secretarial training or qualifications desirable.
*
Strong IT skills with experience using case management systems.
