Senior Recovery Claims Handler | Bolton (Egerton) | £28,000–£33,000 | Full-time, Permanent
A well-established, FCA-regulated general insurance business on the outskirts of Bolton (Egerton) is expanding its motor recoveries team and looking for a Senior Recovery Claims Handler to take ownership of complex and higher-value recoveries on non-fault motor claims.
If you enjoy the satisfaction of getting the result – tracing liability, negotiating hard and bringing the money back in – this is a technical, fast-paced role with real autonomy, fully funded CII qualifications and support from a dedicated in-house trainer.
What you'll be doing
* Manage a portfolio of non-fault motor recovery claims from FNOL through to settlement, including complex, disputed-liability and litigated matters.
* Pursue recovery of outlay from third parties and their insurers – uninsured loss recovery, negotiation and settlement.
* Investigate and argue liability, gathering evidence and working with other departments to determine fault.
* Progress matters through the MOJ/OIC portals and pre-litigation processes, instructing litigation where appropriate.
* Act as a technical referral point and support coaching of less experienced colleagues.
* Liaise professionally with insurers, solicitors and accident management companies, including credit hire and intervention queries.
* Recognise and escalate potentially fraudulent activity.
* Prioritise your caseload to hit recovery targets while supporting wider team duties.
What you'll need
* Substantial experience in motor claims recoveries – uninsured loss recovery, subrogation, outlay recovery or credit hire negotiation – including complex or litigated matters.
* Confident negotiation and persuasive communication skills, written and verbal.
* Working knowledge of FCA and FOS requirements and general claims compliance.
* Excellent attention to detail and confidence using multiple systems.
* CII Certificate held or in progress preferred – completion fully funded and supported.
What you'll get
* Sociable hours – Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm (35-hour week), with flexible start/finish and hybrid working after a successful probation.
* Annual salary reviews and a recognition bonus of up to £300 for going above and beyond.
* 29 days' holiday (including bank holidays), rising to 36 with length of service – plus a birthday day off and a half-day for seasonal shopping.
* Holiday buy/sell scheme and an early finish on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
* Fully funded CII qualifications and one-to-one coaching from a dedicated in-house motor claims trainer.
* Company-paid Level 1 health cash plan – dental, optical, therapies, 24/7 GP access and counselling.
* Contributory pension and a £1,000 refer-a-friend bonus.
* Free on-site parking, casual dress with free branded clothing, and a cycle-to-work scheme.
* Active sports & social club and on-site Mental Health First Aiders.
* A Living Wage and Living Hours employer, and Disability Confident Committed.
